Reading Diary: Rural Rides

I've been remiss in updating my reading diary, but let me add this just finished text in, then I'll catch up later: Rural Rides (1957), by Ralph Wightman. As part of a program for the BBC, Wightman travelled around Britian following roughly the path set by William Cobbett in the early 1800's. At the time, Cobbett was seeking to discover and publicize the changes that were taking place in rural England (recounted by Cobbett in an earlier book of the same name), and Wightman does the same, often comparing the countryside observed by Cobbett to his own experiences as a child after the first world war and in his present tense after the second. It would be interesting to see what a similar investigation would yield today.
