Opus smart card isn't so smart

From the Gazette's Opus card user's guide, a recognition of a problem we, as South Shore dwellers, have run into trying to use the Opus card to store tickets for bus, metro, and train tickets.

A major irritant is that certain types of tickets can't be on the card at the same time - most glaringly, TRAM tickets that grant train, bus and metro access in zones 1, 2 and 3 (Montreal Island, Longueuil and Laval) and single-trip STM tickets. If both tickets were allowed on the same card, the system wouldn't know which fare to delete, said the AMT's Daniel Bergeron, who's in charge of integrating the various Opus computer networks.

Hopefully they will get around to fixing this, although it seems like it is rooted deep in the design of the system. Crazy people....
