Facebook returns to Concordia on Monday

Concordia has decided to re-allow Facebook on their network. This was inevitable, especially given that the rational for the initial blocking was somewhat weak.

What is interesting to me, though, is the emphasis they place on the importance of Facebook to the university's mission:

Facebook has become an important tool for numerous Concordians, specifically in terms of collaboration with academia, researchers and colleagues. Based on feedback from staff and faculty, this website is beneficial to some university members in a variety of ways, from the advertising of campus events to student/faculty recruiting.

Students, faculty, and staff are all using Facebook to build connections between people and groups, and are using those connections to further their personal, academic and organizational goals. While this shouldn't be a revelation to anyone in higher ed, it is interesting to see it noted in such a public fashion.
