New home printer. This evening I installed our new home printer, and HP LaserJet 2015dn. Its fast, solid, and does duplex printing. But the setup was a pain.

I was installing this on our Dell M1530 laptop running Vista. The CD that came with the printer wouldn't boot, and Vista autodetect-plugandplay-whatever was unable the complete the install. I ended up going to the HP site and downloading the PCL6 universal driver and trying to install that. The process started, but hung. I shut down and restart, and somehow the driver was installed, and I was able to print.

In doing some research after the fact, I noticed that Microsoft has a compatibility center for Vista, and the page for the HP LaserJet 2015 points to the correct page on the HP site to download the drivers you need.

So in the end, all is well, but that was a lot harder then it had to be.
