Air travel about to get a lot riskier

Air travel about to get a lot riskier. As if air travel wasn't bad enough, our government is set to follow in the footsteps of the US model to allow the airline industry to set safety levels and handle reporting of safety issues. We have seen the results of this in the US: airlines will cut corners and take risks to save money.

What needs to happen instead is that the government needs to enforce and set safety regulations for air travel, and airlines need to charge the true cost of operating within these regulations. This will lead to significant increases in ticket prices, which will in turn lead to decrease in demand and a shrinking of the industry. So be it. I for one don't want airfare to be subsidized though an increase risk to my safety.
