iPod won't shut down

iPod won't shut down. If there is one problem that Nathalie and I consistently have with our iPods is that they won't always shut down. They aren't frozen: they works fine. We just can't turn them off.

The usual process (holding down the play pad) does nothing. Sometimes if I menu up a level, it works, or if I toggle the hold switch a few times, it will work. Sometimes, the only thing to do is to reboot the unit (hold down menu and centre button). Rarely, even that won't work. I just let it run down until at some time later it decides to respond.

I no longer expect electronic devices to be rock solid, but I do expect something as trivial as turning the device off to work always. And I expect an update-able device like the iPod that exhibits this behaviour to have a patch issued in short order. Its a minor problem, but still frustrating.
