SharePoint problems continue

SharePoint problems continue. Were it not for SharePoint, work would be going very well. My other projects are moving along and coming together nicely. But SharePoint is causing me no end of grief.

I had thought that after considerable effort and cost we had gotten our install of SharePoint to be somewhat stable and usable. Then this week for some unknown reason I was no longer able to create any publishing sites. More specifically, I was not able to activate the publishing infrastructure on any site collections, getting an error message that my trial license has expired.

We went through this problem before, and it was fixed. I had even created a few test publishing sites in preparation for the real sites I need to build in August. Then, something changed, and it no longer works. Our ASP was not able to fix the problem, so they contacted Microsoft support who had no fix either. Everyone is working on it, and I have no publishing platform.

This isn't a big deal. The sites I need to build are relatively small and straightforward, I can build them by hand. (It would actually be a lot easier.) But I'm not feeling confident about using SharePoint as our web platform moving forward. Its workable, I suppose, but I need to reassess whether it is the best fit for our requirements and our environment. That's on my to-do list for next week.
