Thoughts on Facebook Apps. Whenever I see a news item letting us all know that Company ABC just launched a Facebook Application, I read it as saying "Company ABC just launched a web site." Most if not all Facebook "applications" are little more then very, very simple web sites available as widgets in the Facebook UI.

I also don't trust most of these applications. They only become useful if they are allowed access to my social network, and there are not many companies I'm willing to give that level of access to. Most have also shown themselves to be terrible spammers, sending out invites, notifications, etc to everyone on your friends list. I also don't like how I can't filter out application-related news from my news feed. Hopefully someone at FB will get a clue and remedy this soon.
