Putting a price tag on one's beliefs

Gazette: Muslim students still seek compensation: "Yesterday, they said they still want an apology from ETS and a total of $1.165 million in financial compensation - $35,000 for Ghanem and $10,000 for each of other 113 Muslim students involved. The groups had sought that amount in their case before the rights commission, but the ruling ignored their request."

At the risk of carring out an act of extreme political incorrectness, I do believe that if the organization has a clear policy that forbids all religious activity on its grounds, that policy should be respected. At the very least, the organization should not be forced to provide special accomodations for someone's religious beliefs. Call it secular, call it a discrimination against religion, this is the society in which we live. It wasn't always this way, but I will take this far more open society over one dominated by the Roman Catholic church (or any religion for that matter) any day.

There is a delicate balance that must be maintained. To do that, we must all share a belief that this balance is desirable, and then work together to make it work.
