Mac-related rambling

One thing about Mac supporters which I cannot stand is their the inability of some of them to accept the fact that any of the stuff that comes out of Apple may be flawed in some way. Problems are downplayed, criteria redefined to make problems go away. Mention a problem that MS would get skewered for, and you're likely to get a stern, "What's your problem?" And the rejoicing, oh the rejoicing!, when some piddling feature gets added or fixed. Fanatics.

(BTW, if you are one of said people, and take offense at what I've written above, don't bother to try to defend your behavior to me. I doubt that there is enough common ground between us to meet on...)

I've been doing a fair amount of mac-related reading in preparing for my move to the Mac platform, and I've come across this irritating phenomenon again and again. Having made the jump once before, I have a good idea of what to expect. I know that it won't be easy, that Macs are fundamentally different from Windows machines, and not always in good ways. Having said that, my plan for dealing with said problem is not to try to make Mac OS X into Windows, but to embrace it for what it is, strengths and weaknesses alike. I'll leverage those strengths to the max, and deal with the weaknesses hopefully with a little help from my co-workers and friends.

Over the coming weeks I'll sing my Mac's praises, just like I'll share the headaches. There's also a good chance that I won't have time to do either, being too busy with the new job, etc.
