Rain in January

The weather today leaves much to be desired.
By lunch time the warm (~5°C) weather had melted a lot of the ice on the sidewalk, but the water and slush remain. Looking at the news and talking to folks about their trip in this morning, I would guess that many people wish they would have stayed home today.
Although the weather was forecast for a day or two, the city does not appear to have been prepared for it.
Folks from around here like to give people from slightly warmer climes the gears about how they panic and get bogged down at the slightest bit of snow and ice, that somehow we Montrealers/Quebecers talk it all in stride. I think it is time to acknowledge that the idea that we are somehow better able to deal with cold weather is a myth. We may have more of it, but, collectively, we are just as likely to spend our time stuck in the snow, skidding on ice, or thrashing in the slush as anyone else.
